AMD Unveils Second-Generation Kintex UltraScale+ Mid-Range FPGAs, Empowering Intelligent High-Performance Systems

New FPGAs offer high bandwidth, real-time performance, and extensive connectivity for next-generation medical, industrial, test & measurement, and broadcast systems.

· Enhanced long-term reliability through mature tools, advanced security features, and a guaranteed supply until at least 2045.

AMD's launch of the second-generation AMD Kintex UltraScale+ FPGA series marks a significant advancement for designers relying on mid-range FPGAs for performance-critical systems.

Building on the proven Kintex FPGA portfolio, this new series modernizes memory, I/O, and security to meet the growing demands of imaging, test & measurement, industrial automation, and professional 4K/8K media workflows.

Engineered for Demanding Data-Intensive Workloads

The second-generation AMD Kintex UltraScale+ FPGAs are designed to address increasingly complex system requirements in broadcast, test, industrial, and medical markets.

· Intensive 4K/8K Media Workflows: High-speed transceivers and PCIe® Gen4 support 4K AV-over-IP, multi-stream capture, and frame-accurate transport for professional broadcasting and remote production.

· High-Throughput Test & Measurement: Increased memory bandwidth accelerates pattern generation, fault capture, and timing-critical workloads in semiconductor test and inspection systems.

· Advanced Imaging & Real-Time Control: Scalable sensor connectivity enhances diagnostic clarity and responsiveness in machine vision, industrial automation, medical imaging, and robotics systems.

· Migration Path with Spartan UltraScale+ FPGAs: Start now with the XCSU200P in an SBVF900 package and migrate to second-generation Kintex UltraScale+ FPGAs in Q4 2026.

Integrated LPDDR4X/5/5X controllers deliver high DDR bandwidth and deterministic performance, enabling designers to build systems that keep pace with rising data rates while maintaining tight control over latency and power efficiency.

Setting a New Mid-Range Performance Standard

Second-generation Kintex UltraScale+ devices deliver up to 5x more memory bandwidth than their predecessors¹, extending AMD's leadership in the mid-range FPGA segment. These improvements translate directly to higher throughput, lower latency, and more agile system responsiveness without forcing designers to move to a higher-cost device tier.

Second-generation Kintex UltraScale+ FPGAs modernize mid-range FPGA capabilities to address the escalating bandwidth, timing precision, and connectivity demands of key markets.

With scalable high-speed I/O, a modernized memory subsystem, and deterministic architectural behavior, second-generation Kintex UltraScale+ FPGAs enable faster edge processing and adaptable processing pipelines that respond in real time while scaling to meet future throughput needs.

Enhanced Security and Longevity

In environments where many Kintex-based systems operate, long product lifecycles, certification stability, and trusted operation are critical requirements. Second-generation Kintex UltraScale+ FPGAs embed advanced security features directly into the devices, reinforcing our long-term commitment to these markets.

Features such as device attestation, bitstream encryption, anti-cloning protection, secure key management, and CNSA 2.0-grade cryptography help safeguard intellectual property and protect systems operating in distributed, connected, and regulated environments.

Beyond security, second-generation Kintex UltraScale+ FPGAs are built for longevity. With a planned supply guarantee until at least 2045, the series offers the supply assurance that industrial, medical, broadcast, and test equipment manufacturers rely on to support deployments spanning decades, while also helping to minimize redesign cycles and maintain regulatory certifications long-term.

Equally important is development continuity. Second-generation Kintex UltraScale+ devices offer a stable, predictable development path, supported by the proven AMD Vivado and Vitis tool suites and a mature portfolio of AMD video, Ethernet, and connectivity IP.

Availability and Getting Started

Simulation support within Vivado and Vitis tools is planned for Q3 2026, providing early access for development teams to begin architecture exploration and design work.

Pre-production silicon of the XC2KU050P FPGA is scheduled to begin sampling in Q4 2026 for early hardware verification and performance characterization, with volume production anticipated in the first half of 2027. Second-generation Kintex UltraScale+ evaluation kits based on the XC2KU050P FPGA will begin sampling in Q4 2026.

The existing Spartan UltraScale+ SCU200 evaluation kit based on the migration-enabled XCSU200P device is available now and is suitable for designers looking to get a head start with PCIe Gen4, hardened memory controllers, and advanced security features.
